INCREASE IN PEOPLE SEEKING COUNSELLING continued

 

The public attitued survey was conducted in March 2014 and included over 2,000 adults aged between 16 and 75.  Twenty Eight percent of people said they had sought help from a counsellor or psychotherapist, 7 percent more than when BACP last undertok this same survey in 2010.

Over 54% had seen a counsellor of psychotherapist or knew a family member, friend, or work colleauge who had.

GOVERNMENT URGES 'PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS'

Following a 12-month inquiry into mental well being in England, the Commission concluded that the 'pursuit of happiness' must be included in a National Well Being programme to promote mutual support, self-care and recovery, and reduce stigma.  To read more, go to:

EMOTIONAL OVEREATING NOT ADDRESSED BY HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

Emotional overeating is a major psychological problem that is often misunderstood by health professionals, a survey by the eating disorders charity B-eat has recently found.

Reasons given for overeating included feeling low, anxious, lonely, or because they couldn't cope with difficult feelings.
